How do veneers work?

Here at Plancich Dental, we believe in the long term smile-boosting ability of porcelain veneers. After you and one of our smile makeover specialists (aka cosmetic dentist) decide veneers are the right option for you, the process is relatively smooth and straightforward.

Typically, our process requires at least three appointments for a patient: a diagnosis and treatment planning session, a preparation session, and a bonding session. For certain patients no preparation of the teeth may be necessary, but for others, we need to get the teeth properly prepared for veneers, to ensure our highest quality standards are met.

What is the difference between a dental implant and a veneer?

Dental implants is a cosmetic procedure that can liven up your smile, but is different from veneers in application and results.

Dental implants are inserted directly to the jawbone and provide anchors for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Veneers cannot replace missing teeth, but dental implants can. Dental implants are also supposed to last 25-30 years whereas porcelain veneers last about 10-15 years.

How long do dental veneers last?

Dental veneers can last anywhere from 10-30 years. Every person is unique so everything is case-by-case but with good dental care, healthy teeth and maintenance you can enjoy your veneers for a good while.

Do veneers ruin your real teeth?

No, veneers do not ruin your real teeth. In fact they can actually protect your teeth from damage and staining. That said, veneers are only effective when your natural teeth and gums are healthy. If you have a history of weakened enamel, gum disease or other dental conditions, those conditions will still be there, just under the surface of the veneer. Because those dental issues can lead to root canals and crowns down the road we do not use veneers on patients with aforementioned dental issues.
