What are veneers?

Veneers are thin shells of strong porcelain or plastic bonded directly over the front of your teeth to change their color, size or shape. Tooth imperfections and flaws are not a problem as veneers can be used on teeth that are:

Veneers are highly customized, and when expertly crafted, will look natural and be virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. Getting veneers is one of the quickest and least invasive cosmetic treatments to a beautiful smile.

Let’s take a look at what the process of getting veneers looks like at Plancich.

How do veneers work?

Here at Plancich Dental, we believe in the long term smile-boosting ability of porcelain veneers. After you and one of our smile makeover specialists (aka cosmetic dentist) decide veneers are the right option for you, the process is relatively smooth and straightforward.

Typically, our process requires at least three appointments for a patient: a diagnosis and treatment planning session, a preparation session, and a bonding session. For certain patients no preparation of the teeth may be necessary, but for others, we need to get the teeth properly prepared for veneers, to ensure our highest quality standards are met.

What is the difference between a dental implant and a veneer?

Dental implants is a cosmetic procedure that can liven up your smile, but is different from veneers in application and results.

Dental implants are inserted directly to the jawbone and provide anchors for replacing a missing tooth or teeth. Veneers cannot replace missing teeth, but dental implants can. Dental implants are also supposed to last 25-30 years whereas porcelain veneers last about 10-15 years.

How long do dental veneers last?

Dental veneers can last anywhere from 10-30 years. Every person is unique so everything is case-by-case but with good dental care, healthy teeth and maintenance you can enjoy your veneers for a good while.

Do veneers ruin your real teeth?

No, veneers do not ruin your real teeth. In fact they can actually protect your teeth from damage and staining. That said, veneers are only effective when your natural teeth and gums are healthy. If you have a history of weakened enamel, gum disease or other dental conditions, those conditions will still be there, just under the surface of the veneer. Because those dental issues can lead to root canals and crowns down the road we do not use veneers on patients with aforementioned dental issues.

Who are veneers for?

People with healthy gums and teeth who are ready for a fuller, brighter smile! If you’re looking to close gaps, fix misalignments, change the shape, size or color of your teeth, veneers are a great cosmetic improvement option for you. Especially if you want all the confidence and benefits of a new smile. Still, the best way to know without a doubt is to schedule a consultation with one of our dentists in Tacoma or Lakewood.

What are the benefits of veneers?

They can easily fix major and minor dental problems related to the aesthetics of your teeth. Here are some more benefits of veneers:

  • Last a long time from 10-30 years
  • Applied quickly and easily in just 2-3 visits
