Dr. Plancich believes community service is a powerful tool especially for youth development. His volunteer efforts in the community have been numerous. In addition to volunteering on the TAC Finance Committee (awarding grants to deserving amateur athletic organizations and individuals), he has coached youth baseball, basketball and helped with youth football programs.Greg has been instrumental in the success of the St. Charles Borromeo Capital Campaign and the renovations to the school gymnasium and baseball field. He’s active in the Bellarmine Boosters as well and is one of the area’s biggest sports fans.
In 2001, Dr. Plancich was awarded the prestigious Kurt Gegner Community Service Award by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chapter of The National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. He continues this commitment for the betterment of Tacoma and Pierce County youth.
Dr. Gregory Plancich has been in the ring during the Tacoma Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament since 1989 but hasn’t won a championship. In fact, he hasn’t thrown a punch. Plancich has been the Chairman of TAC Golden Gloves committees since 1991 and his efforts at organizing and carrying out that committee’s plans have not gone without being recognized by those who are closest to the event. Over the years this event has raised money to support the Tacoma Boxing Club at the Al Davies branch of the Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound.
